SWADE cannabis hosts block party to open fifth dispensary on Cherokee Street

SWADE cannabis is excited to announce the opening of its fifth dispensary, July 30th in the Cherokee neighborhood of St. Louis City.

“We are pleased to be expanding our footprint in the city of St. Louis, says Tom Muzzey, CEO of BeLeaf Medical, “Cherokee Street is a center of commerce, culture and creativity in St. Louis, with galleries and antiques, music and good eats, and the best festivals and events STL has to offer and they have welcomed us with open arms.”

Working with MIN+ architecture, President Meg Holmes said this about the new location, “This contemporary twist on a dilapidated, empty building on Antique Row created a dialogue between modern and historical. Original transom windows we discovered during demolition inform the facade and provide natural light, while meeting security and privacy requirements. Further, we added a surprising intervention in the context of Antique Row: a diagonal set-back to provide weather protection for customers and a glimpse of the reception. We wanted to respect the surrounding historical context while also making a statement representative of Swade’s unique contemporary aesthetic. This is a great example of bridging old and new developments on Cherokee Street.”

Cherokee Street is cared for by the Cherokee Street Community Improvement District, which works to make the neighborhood and street even more beautiful and dynamic for neighbors and visitors alike.

Along with the Cherokee Street Community Improvement District, SWADE will be hosting a block party on Friday July 30th from 2-8pm. Food trucks, music, medical cannabis vendors, retail and art pop-up vendors and more will be present in the SWADE back parking lot. “The team and I are beyond excited to be moving into the district, and didn’t want to just celebrate our store opening, but rather, why choose this spot,” said Maxwell McAnallen, General Manager of Swade Cannabis Cherokee. “We want to celebrate the rich culture and community of Cherokee and couldn’t think of a better way to do that and to meet our new neighbors.”

Introducing 314Twenty

Launches Local Community Program

Missouri’s premiere luxury cannabis dispensary, SWADE Cannabis, kicked off 314twenty today to support local businesses. Neighborhood businesses are the heart of the city’s most iconic communities and vibrant cultures, and as a new part of these neighborhoods, SWADE is excited to connect and amplify the work of St. Louisans (of all strains). Each month, SWADE will use their promotional channels to spotlight a local business and offer THEIR customers a discount at SWADE locations.

“In the spirit of giving and on the heels of such a long past year, SWADE is excited to join with other local businesses to elevate the community together. We all love to see the companies we patronize looking for a way to give back to their communities. It feels good to know that the money we spend is being used, in part, to benefit others,” says Jack Haddox, Director of Dispensary Operations. “For many of us, seeing some kind of local contribution is a requirement before we will become regular patrons of a business. Our dedication to being a good neighbor and supporting community has never been more important than now.”

How it works: Employees of businesses in each of our neighborhoods get an industry discount card for 20% all THC/CBD products. Workers can bring recent proof of employment (badge, business card, paycheck stub) to a SWADE Dispensary and we’ll get them a discount card if they already have a medical card, and if not, will help them get one. Business owners can opt-in to the 314twenty network via QR code or by directly going to the 314twenty landing page to sign up. We will spotlight different partners and during that “spotlighted” time, any patients that bring in a receipt from that local business, we will give 20%** off their purchase (THC/CBD products)—incentivizing the community to support and reinvest back into local businesses. These businesses will display a window cling at their locations to notify the patrons that they are participating. This is a token of SWADE Cannabis’ appreciation to our neighbors for cultivating the culture and soul of the communities we want to be a part of. The goal – simply to be a neighbor to residents, a partner to local businesses and a pillar of the community.

Introducing House Of Happy’s Kasey Boggs

Hi, I’m Kasey…I live in New Melle with my husband and big crazy family. I am a mom to 3 beautiful kids, 4 dogs, 2 ducks, and 2 chickens. My main motivator in life is my family and the outdoorsy lifestyle we indulge in. On most days you will find us biking, hiking, or swimming in our creek. I grew up in Wildwood, MO, and after graduating college from UMSL decided to follow my heart and move out to the country where I could further my passion for rescuing animals and wildlife. I started my family and never looked back.

I have a background in media marketing, branding, advertising and sales. I have always pursued and maintained jobs that allow creativity. I tend to gravitate towards challenging situations that require brainstorming and collecting different perspectives to find a solution. I left the pharmaceutical world in 2016 to raise my children and most importantly to find myself. I knew this career wasn’t for me anymore and it was time to find out what was. I now work as a marketing director for House of Pain Gyms and Apparel. I have always lived a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and exercise. After college, I got a little more serious with it and competed in 4 bodybuilding shows in the figure category. This job allows me to support and encourage this lifestyle for a variety of others and provide an environment with the resources to do so. After leaving pharmaceuticals I promised myself that my next journey would be something I believe in and brings me happiness.

When I was asked to join the SWADE team I was ecstatic. Cannabis is something that has been a part of my lifestyle for more than a decade and has given me more confidence as a working mother and wife. I have always wanted to share my perspective and own personal experience with other women that are struggling or simply want to learn more about it. With all of the negative stigmatism it is hard to find the right space to tap into this controversial subject. My goal is to open up conversations, educate, and most importantly, help. I want to lift others up so they can be their best self. Cannabis is holistic medicine that can benefit a whole range of health issues physically, emotionally, and mentally. It is nothing more and nothing less. It is a natural way to medicate yourself, bypassing all of the lab-made chemicals that often get pushed on you.

My goal here is to unite our community and bring down the walls of judgement and shame. I want to eliminate stereotypes that discourage people from medicating with cannabis. I want women to feel empowered to be who they are without feelings of guilt caused by societal norms. When people see me, or are reading along, I want them to feel understood, seen and safe. You are not alone!

SWADE Cannabis Debuts Flagship Dispensary in The Grove

Local Flair and Stunning Contemporary Design

SWADE cannabis, a St. Louis-based medical marijuana dispensary, announced the grand opening of its third location on April 16, 2021, a gem etched on the bustling street of Manchester Avenue in The Grove. The long-vacant location has since undergone extensive renovations resulting in a 7,500 square foot storefront which includes contemporary fabrication and finishes plus state-of-the-art systems and security.

“Being the largest SWADE Dispensary to date, special attention was paid to all aspects of the design to highlight The Grove location as our flagship store and hiring local talent from beginning to end, only solidified our goal of creating a destination admired for heavy doses of nostalgia.” Said Tom Muzzey CEO of BeLeaf Medical, “This store is a dedication to the creative, vibrant spirit of St. Louis encapsulating a strong collaboration of local talent.”

MIN+ Architecture was hired when the SWADE partners saw this once-empty warehouse as a prime opportunity to create a statement space. The design team embraced the industrial character of the building shell by exposing the steel roof framing and portions of the interior masonry. New steel beams were installed to maintain the expansive ceiling height and to allow natural light deep into the space. Two new custom cantilevered canopies highlight the new entry and exit.

While the majority of the brick and block front façade was maintained, it was critical to the SWADE Team to find a way to activate this solid wall and contribute to the lively commercial streetscape on Manchester. A local street artist, Jayvn Soloman, was tapped to design and install a custom mural. He was tasked with artistically interpreting the SWADE Brand and creating a colorful destination that would stand-out amongst other notable murals throughout the neighborhood and the results are phenomenal.

“In keeping with the eclectic and colorful vibes of the neighborhood, The Grove location boasts numerous artistic collaborations including a branded luminous ceiling print by Dave Bour at SuperDog Content, custom designed vinyl graphics by Donald J Fedorko at ImprovEyes, a colorful floral wall installation by the SWADE marketing team, interior benches made from reclaimed Douglas fir by local furniture designer, Jermain Todd with Mwanzico and open space for showcasing a rotation of local artists’ work.” Meg Holmes, Principal at MIN+ Architecture said, “all of which adds up to a unique, must-see space for reasons beyond just medical marijuana.”

Cissell Mueller Construction Inc. focused their efforts on making the building structurally sound and bringing it up to current codes as MIN+ focused their efforts on the design and finishes. The other dispensaries have earthy tones and finishes, while the Grove has much more color, light and movement. Cissell Mueller and MIN+ always wanted to maintain the building’s history.

“During demolition, we got a glimpse into the buildings history when we discovered a hidden whiskey barrel that could be accessed by removing a few bricks to draw the whiskey out. It was exciting to find this piece of history, possibly hidden during the Prohibition era, and to envision the evolution into a modern dispensary.” Said Morgan Stearn, Project Administrator for Cissell Mueller. Another special feature at the Grove location is the rear indoor parking and overhead door access at the front and rear of the building. The rear parking allows for more security and storage while the front overhead door allows SWADE to open up to the outside for community events.

“Legalized, medical marijuana sales along with thriving, plant-based medical marijuana use, is proving to be a strong economic force,” says Kevin Riggs, Co-founder at BeLeaf Medical. “We are thrilled to continue to grow and expand our operations into Downtown St. Louis

The women making History at Swade

Introducing

Addy

Tell us about yourself
I’m from Hannibal, MO and moved to STL after graduating from Mizzou. I started my career in the advertising industry, and this role at Swade is my first position in cannabis. I became interested and passionate about incorporating holistic medicine and practices into my life several years ago and am excited to explore a career where I can help others do the same. In my free time, I volunteer and am the treasurer for the St. Louis Samoyed Rescue (which led me to rescue and adopt my own sweet senior dog, Logan). I love to stay active by going to the gym, participating in sports, and spending time outdoors; and wind down by reading a book or watching a show. I also love to travel and am looking forward to planning my next adventure!

How do you view your role as a Product Specialist at Swade?
I like to view my role as a Product Specialist as a product/medication educator. No two patients are alike and it’s important to help the patient find a product to fit their individual needs and preferences.

What inspires you in your role at Swade?
The patients really are what inspire me. To see patients come in and tell success stories or how they’ve been able to live a pain-free life, cut down on (or in some cases, completely eliminate) prescription medications, or sleep through the night again because they’ve started using cannabis medically, is such a rewarding experience. Even new users that come into a dispensary for the first time and are extremely grateful for the expertise and guidance from our Product Specialists, are daily reminders that what we do is making an impact.

What do you want to say to a patient nervous about their first visit to Swade?
Never feel embarrassed or ashamed because you are using cannabis as medication! I’m hoping what Swade can help do is eliminate the stigma and negative connotations associated with using cannabis. We have patients of so many different demographics, and there is no “typical” cannabis user. I also want people to understand that there are many medication options that don’t always involve smoking or being “stoned” to receive the relief they are looking for.

St. Louis native, lived four years in Chicago where I graduated from DePaul University in 2016 with a degree in Communications and Hospitality Leadership. Avid traveler, Prague is my favorite place I’ve visited. Dog mom, wife, empath, cannabis aficionado and lover of all things St. Louis, especially provel cheese, Gioia’s hot salami and our beloved Blues. In my free time I enjoy cooking, hiking and game nights. I wouldn’t be anywhere without the love and support of my amazing family.

How do you view your role as Product Specialist / General Manager / Patient Advocate / Consultation Specialist at Swade?
I view my role at Swade as one of absolute privilege. It is an honor to be able to connect with our patients and provide them with the support and care they deserve. Each and every day I feel so lucky to be able to do what I do.

What inspires you in your role at Swade?
Our products, stellar team and wonderful patients are what inspire me daily. We’ve cultivated such an inclusive and friendly vibe at Swade, making it feel more like home than work. I’ve always been a cannabis advocate but witnessing firsthand how much it can positively impact someone’s life is truly surreal. That feeling just never gets old.

What do you want to say to a patient nervous about their first visit to Swade?
Congratulations on taking this step in self-care. You are safe, you are heard and you are more than deserving of all the relief and comfort cannabis provides. My goal is to make you feel as welcome as possible and to have you leave our dispensary knowing you’re part of our Swade Family. Thank you for your trust and your vulnerability.

Introducing

MO

Tell us about yourself
My name is Mo Muzzey and I am a Saint Louis local. This past May I graduated from Southeast Missouri state university with a degree in Corporate Communications and Integrated Marketing but with the emerging cannabis industry in Missouri I decided to take a different path than I had originally thought and that’s how I ended up with Swade. I am currently working as a Product Specialist after transitioning from the cultivation side of the Sinse brand. I love the cultivation, science, and the beauty of the plants but my passion ultimately lies with serving Missouri MMJ patients.

How do you view your role as Product Specialist / General Manager / Patient Advocate / Consultation Specialist at Swade? What inspires you in your role at Swade?
I believe that cannabis can fit into everyone’s lifestyle and that there is no “one way” to consume. I know cannabis has transformed my life in the most positive way and I hope I can continue to share that with every patient I encounter.

What do you want to say to a patient nervous about their first visit to Swade?
If there was one thing I could say to a first-time patient coming to Swade, it would definitely be that cannabis IS medicine and there will be something that can work for your lifestyle and we can definitely be the people that help you find it.

Tell us about yourself
I love food and I think I’m funny. I hail from the swamp and I’m passionately invested in Gator football. I have four wonderful children, each one has helped me evolve into the human I am today. I love music, the sun, and chicken wings. Loud isn’t loud enough and fast isn’t fast enough. Cooking and grilling are my two favorite hobbies. I would host gatherings every weekend if I could. Before covid I was a bartender and I absolutely loved it. Over the years I’ve met so many wonderful people while behind the bar. I’ve heard some crazy stories, watched families grow, witness friendships being built; the list goes on. It’s been a wonderful life thus far.

How do you view your role as Product Specialist / General Manager / Patient Advocate / Consultation Specialist at Swade?
When I got this job I didn’t know what to expect. I knew the basic details, but I was not prepared for the immense growth I’m experiencing. Being a product specialist has allowed me to connect with so many people. I’m humbled everyday by the stories of people leaving pharmaceutical companies. Men and women coming to us in tears about their years of pain and discomfort-finally able to buy products that work! It’s amazing and inspiring.

What inspires you in your role at Swade?
Since leaving the bar industry my quality of life has drastically improved as well. The ability to help others everyday is an honor and privilege. I Couldn’t ask for a better gig.

What do you want to say to a patient nervous about their first visit to Swade?
For anyone who is nervous or embarrassed; don’t be! We’re all here to help. We all have our “why.” Don’t be discouraged or worried because of some else’s opinion about pain management. This is your journey, own it and enjoy it!

It’s stuff we all do every day.

SWADE CANNABIS PARTNERS WITH LAST PRISONER PROJECT

January 26, 2021 (St. Louis, MO) Swade Cannabis is honored to be the first in Missouri to partner with the Last Prisoner Project and the Roll It Up for Justice Program. LPP is a team of cannabis industry leaders, criminal and social justice advocates, policy and education experts, and influencers in social justice and drug policy reform that are committed to freeing every last prisoner of the unjust war on drugs, starting with 40,000 people in prison for cannabis offenses legal in most states.

As the United States moves away from the criminalization of cannabis, giving rise to a major new industry, there remains the fundamental injustice inflicted upon those who have suffered criminal convictions and the consequences of those convictions. Through intervention, advocacy and awareness campaigns, the forces behind the LPP will work to rework the past and halt continuing with the harms of these unjust laws and policies, striving to ensure that every last victimless cannabis prisoner walks free.

The Roll It Up For Justice Program, specifically, is a nationwide campaign encouraging cannabis business to give customers the opportunity to donate to Last Prisoner Project at check out. Small change can make a big impact, and every cent raised through the program gets us closer to the day when every last cannabis prisoner is set free.

“Swade recognizes the responsibility to assist in helping to end the inequality and injustice that persists in the cannabis arena,” said Jack Haddox, Director of Dispensary Operations. “Last Prisoner Project has made incredible progress towards its mission and Swade is proud to contribute to such a committed advocacy group that is facilitating such a meaningful change.”
